Family & Consumer Sciences Instructor / Teacher Leader

Hi, welcome to my wikispace. I hope you find it user friendly. Please let me know if you have questions or would like more information about something.

I have taught 7th - 12th grade Family & Consumer Sciences classes in a variety of settings: very small to medium size communities surrounded by farms, with plenty of places for students to experience nature. Where many students are avid hunters and fishers! I've also taught in a larger more urban environment, where students were more involved with community sports and cultural events. All environments gave me a different perspective to add to my teaching philosophy.

The courses that I have taught include:
  • Beginning sewing
  • Clothing & Textiles
  • Foods & Nutrition
  • Living in the Real World (FCS 1)
  • Child Development
  • Parenting
  • Entrepreneurship
  • Personal Finance

As a one a teacher department (multiple times) each semester included many different courses so that students could have a variety of electives to choose from.Typically my classes average about 20 students per class, although some of the textbook based classes can grow to 30+. Overall I have had great support from my administration and fellow teachers. Generally everyone sees the need of having Family & Consumer Sciences classes.

Committees I have served on include:
  • Positive Behavior Support = PBS
  • RtI = Response to Intervention
  • Professional Learning Communities = PLC
  • Advisory committee to the principle.
  • Mentor to new professionals / student teacher advisor
  • Curriculum Revisions
  • and of course Family, Career and Community Leaders of America.
